HTC One (m8) and Samsung Galaxy S5 are great phones with fantastic specs but when you see the $700 price tag you think twice before buying them.
But what if you can buy an Android phone with similar specs for just $299? – It would be hard, almost impossible to resist. OnePlus have announced a shocking model called OnePlus One which will be released in June. It is shocking because it has high end specs and very reasonable price. This is the manufacturer’s debut phone and it seems they would storm the market from the word “go”.
So will the OnePlus be a success? Richard Querrey from contractphoneswithfreegifts.com thinks so:
“We’re fairly certain the OnePlus is going to be a big hit primarily because of how crazily good the pricing is. For a phone of this specification it’s extremely low and it definitely has a place in the market right. With news of Google ditching the Nexus line there’s also going to be a gaping hole in the market to fill for those users who want high specification phones but don’t want to pay extortionate prices. The OnePlus could be the answer.”
The launch of OnePlus One would only be an “invite-only”. The first statement released by the company was (even though the date was delayed):
“The first 100 OnePlus Ones will be available through the OnePlus Phone Smash, starting April 25th. OnePlus fans can go to oneplus.net/smash to apply to smash their current phone in exchange for a OnePlus One. 100 lucky applicants will get the very first 100 OnePlus Ones for just $1 as well as the ability to invite their friends to buy the OnePlus One.”
But it is yet to be confirmed that whether this offer will continue or not. We are awaiting the official word from the manufacturer but since no news is good news, we can assume that the first 100 users who applied will get the deal.
OnePlus One will run on Android 4.4 and it will contain a lot of features of an Android stock device. Here are the general specifications of the device:
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor at 2.5 GHz
- 3GB of RAM (in comparison to S5 and One, have 2GB)
- 5.5 inch 1080p IPS Gorilla Glass 3 display
- 13 megapixel Sony camera with dual LED flash
- 5 megapixel front facing camera
- Built in stereo speakers
- 3,100 mAh battery
- Dimensions of 152.9 x 75.9 x 8.9 mm and 162 grams
As you can see the device is all set to be a cracker! It literally has better (read: better) specs that 5S and One (m8). The statement alone is enough to baffle a smartphone enthusiast.
Upon its release OnePlus One will be available for $299 with 16GB – it will be available in black and white color. If you are ready to pay slightly more, which you absolutely should, you will get 64GB model (black only) for just $349 that is only $50 more.
The specs look great, the price is reasonable. Even if OnePlus One fails to impress in the long run, it is still worth giving a try and a fair run in the smartphone market.
