Want to get the most from your iPhone?  Here are some helpful secrets and shortcuts to really use it to your advantage.


Did you know that you can use the + volume button on your iPhone to take a picture?  If you turn your phone to landscape but find it awkward to hit the big home button then simply use the + volume button.  Say cheese.

You can also take a picture with a simple slide.  Slide the screen up rather than across and you can take a picture from your phone without having to open it up. Click happy.

Edit your photos using the enhancer. Change red eye, add a filter or even crop the image.  It really is that simple.

Want to take a screen shot? Simply press the home button and the lock button at the same time and you can take a snap of whatever is on your screen.

Keyboard tricks

If you want to really shout at someone you can double tap the caps lock key and it will stay on.  Type as angrily as you need without having to hold down caps lock.

Creating a shortcut will help you if you always use the same words but want to create a shortened version.  Head to settings/General/Keyboard and find shortcuts.  Here you can type a phrase and enter the short cut below.  BRB.


Don’t forget to always update your phone when new updates are available.  Your phone will probably notify you to let you know that an update is there.  Head to the settings on your phone and hit ‘update’.  You will also be notified when apps are ready to be updated.  You will know this by the red circle with the number in it.


You can customise your alerts and ring tones for every thing you have.  You can have a different alert for texts, emails, incoming calls and even your Facebook notifications.  Simply head to the Settings/Sounds and you will find everything you need.

There are hundreds of little tricks that you can use on your iPhone.  It all depends on how geeky you want to get.  Be careful when you play around with the settings on your phone though, as you could accidentally change something and not know how to go back to edit it.
