SmartphonesWe found three smartphone technology innovations recently which we thought you’d like to know about.

Every day we read about a new development in smartphone technology. Every time you think that’s as far as they can go, a new announcement is made. We found three innovations recently which we thought you’d like to know about.

iPhone case that is a charger and a breathalyser

Japanese firm Thanko has developed this new case which offers these two additional functions. The charging function works via a built-in battery as a docking station for the phone. Users can switch between the two batteries i.e. using the power in the case if the phone battery is low.

The breathalyser is activated by blowing into the back of the case for between 3 and 5 seconds. A few seconds later the display also on the back of the phone lights up green, yellow or red. The reading also gives a percentage of grams of alcohol per litre of blood.

Obviously if the panel shows red then you are over the limit and shouldn’t drive. If the yellow light comes on, it means you are borderline over the limit. Best to stop drinking now and wait for a while before doing the test again. The green lit panel of course means you are safe to drive.

Currently this clever case has been made for the iPhone 5 but hopefully it will be produced for different models of smarkphones too.

So many pixels

Chinese company Vivo has produced a smartphone screen that has more pixels than an iPad. The smartphone, the Xplay 3S has Quad HD technology  and a screen resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels, all powered by a Qualcom Snapdragon 800 processor. The company hasn’t yet announced how big the screen will be but its being estimated at 5.5 inches on Mashable. It also hasn’t disclosed the price or the expected launch date!

It is expected that this resolution will appeal to app builders. Apple has already claimed that a resolution of more than 330 pixels per inch cannot be recognised by the human eye so it is difficult to understand why this one is so big.

Which phone is fastest?

The recently launched iPhone 5S has come out tops on testing by the consumer magazine Which? The test was to find the fastest smartphone.

The new iPhone 5S was streaks ahead of its nearest rival the LGG2 and Samsung’s Galaxy S4. Which tested them using Geekbench software which mimics real time functions measuring single and dual core processes of the smartphones.

The measured processing speed highlights how quickly the phones can open apps, play videos and games, multitask and more. The 5S beat all of the others with single core speeds; it was double that of the Galaxy S4 and the iPhone 5C.

The 5S has definitely shown its colours and its speed is most noticeable when using ‘power-hungry apps and editing videos.

If you’re the proud owner of one of the new 5S iPhones get it covered! Iphone insurance is a worthwhile investment especially if you look for companies offering you really comprehensive deals online.
