Red Hat LinuxRed Hat has announced the release of a distributed file system GlusterFS 3.4, which allows to organize work on multiple nodes of the distributed repository that is deployed on top of full-time POSIX file system, such as Ext4, XFS and Btrfs, with the use of FUSE (filesystem in userspace).

GlusterFS provides tools for automatic failover and provides virtually unlimited scalability by eliminating the reference to a centralized server meta-data (using distributed hash tables). Ready-to-install binary packages GlusterFS 3.4 prepared for Fedora, RHEL, CentOS, Debian and Ubuntu.

The main innovations:

– Optimized for use as a distributed repository of virtual machines;

– Integration support for QEMU to the library libgfapi, in addition to the previously implemented support for Samba. Libgfapi library allows you to organize direct access QEMU and Samba to data stored in GlusterFS, without mounting section;

– Supports integration with the cloud platform OpenStack (GlusterFS can be used as primary storage in OpenStack);

– Significant increase in performance mode synchronous replication, through the processing of translator replication (AFR);

– Support for POSIX ACL to mount GlusterFS-sections through NFSv3;

– Implementation of resource management agents (Resource Agents), compatible with the Open Cluster Framework, which allows the use of a glusterd cluster resource managers such as Pacemaker. By agents of the organization management scenario reminiscent of the work of services for upstart and systemd, except that they are designed to work in a clustered environment;

– Support for systems management virtualization oVirt 3.2 and preparation layer for integration with third-party toolkits through RESTful API;

– Support for SSL-encryption socket connections;

– Support multi-threading Glusterd;

– Support for managing the quorum (Quorum) on the server side based on the information glusterd reachability of other nodes, allowing for violation of the Network temporarily disable replicated blocks for which a quorum was not achieved;

– Experimental Features: manager RDMA-compounds (RDMA-CM), new compiler support for block devices and NUFA.

In the announcement of further based on the rise in May to develop a community of free projects related to data storage systems. For three months, the number of projects being developed under the wing, increased from 7 to 30. Number of people involved in the development community has increased by 300%.
