Open SourceTesting of the first beta of FreeBSD 8.4 (continuing development of last stable branch) began.

The branch 8.x is positioned for updating of systems of already using FreeBSD 8.x and the users, wishing to keep a maximum level of compatibility with the current configuration.

A test version is available for platforms amd64, i386 and pc98. Mounting assemblies are available in the form of images bootonly, DVD, CD, LiveFS and Memstick. The release is scheduled for April 19. Apparently, the 8.4 release will be the last in the line of 8.x.
